J Sainsbury’s Sign Monolith outside their HQ building in Holborn is illuminated by 10 high efficiency Luxeon LEDs, powered by solar energy generated from mono crystalline glass laminate photovoltaics and managed by a Zeta Solar control system.
Zeta Solar provided the Energy Management System, which maximises the energy conversion from the solar panels to the battery and automatically turns on the LED lighting at dusk and switches off again at dawn.
Preset thresholds, which adjust the signs brightness depending on the time of night, determine the brightness of the illumination and the available power held within the batteries. This means that during prolonged periods of low light conditions, the energy is used effectively to ensure that the illumination is maintained.
